The development team at nanoFlowcell Holdings could have easily touted the zero to 100 km/h in 2.4 seconds off-the-line performance of its newest electric sports car; but instead, they’d prefer to focus on what really matters: The QUANT 48VOLT’s drive system. Considered to be the “safest, most powerful, environmentally compatible and economical drive system for electric vehicles,” nanoFlowcell is defining the future of mobility.

Eco-Friendly Electric Sports Car

Even though nanoFlowcell wants you to look past The QUANT’s impressive aerodynamic exterior and its 2+2 sports saloon car reaching top speeds of 300 km/h, it’s tough not to stare. “The top speed of the QUANT 48VOLT is actually secondary,” explains Nunzio La Veccia, Chief Technology Officer. “What matters is that our nanoFlowcell 48VOLT drive delivers environmentally friendly, real-life performance – by which I mean zero harmful emissions, a comfortable cruising speed AND respectable range.”

Low Voltage Safety

From an electrical perspective, the QUANT 48VOLT is the safest sports car prototype about to hit the market. “We’re the only company to address the safety concerns associated with electric mobility,” La Veccia said in an interview with FLOW Magazine. “The electric drive in the QUANT is consistently maintained at a low voltage.” With the EV industry focused mostly on range and speed performance rather than more efficient drive systems, we could see electric vehicles carrying 800 volts under the hood. This is a dangerous and puts operators, passengers, pedestrians, and first responders at risk during a high-speed crash. “The bi-ION electrolyte liquid fuel of the nanoFlowcell is neither flammable nor explosive.”

Disruptive Flow Cell Technology

To say that nanoFlowcell’s technology is disruptive would be an understatement. According to FLOW Magazine, the “Flow cell tech in the QUANT 48VOLT enables extreme performance (>560 kW output) and exemplary range (>1,000 kilometers) with a safe battery voltage (maximum 48 volts).” Armed with four 140 kW low-voltage motors, QUANT is poised to go down at “the most powerful all-wheel drive low-voltage electric sports car on the planet.” Because of its simplified production, it’s also one of the least expensive drive systems to manufacture.

Lower Costs & Easier to Fix

From the absence of the inverter traditionally found in high-voltage EV’s to ease-of-maintenance, the car repair expense is drastically reduced. Since the QUANT carries limited voltage, no longer would you require a certified high-voltage mechanic to fix any of the drive system issues. In addition, efficient levels – especially with regard to driving cycles – are exponentially improved. “The maximum efficiency of the low-voltage motors can be extended across the entire rev/torque map and the connect “gear” selected depending upon driving conditions.” In other words, energy used during acceleration, deceleration, stop and go traffic, etc. spreads out nicely instead of needing traditional battery cool down times.

The Future of Mobility

Finally, and arguably the most disruptive impact on electric mobility is the reduced reliance on supercapacitors. Previously used as a “buffer storage” for the energy supplied by nanoFlowcell, Supercapacitors are no longer needed – making Nano’s electric sports car lighter, faster, and more efficient. There is a growing list of “firsts” with the low-voltage, high-performance QUANT 48VOLT electric sports car. From six flow cells being used simultaneously to a low-voltage EV capable of zero to 100 km/h in 2.4 seconds, it’s safe to say that nanoFlowcell’s new technology is poised to change the future of mobility. We’ll see if other EV manufacturers follow suit and adopt nanoFlowcell’s groundbreaking drive system.
